AUTHOR GUIDELINES
MADIA: Jurnal Humas dan Media Kontemporer welcomes the submission of original research articles, conceptual papers, case studies, and critical reviews related to communication studies, public relations, media studies, digital communication, organizational communication, marketing communication, political communication, cultural communication, and other contemporary communication issues. Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by any other journal. These guidelines are intended to assist authors in preparing manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s publication standards.
1. General Manuscript Requirements
- The manuscript must present original research findings or scholarly work relevant to the aims and scope of the journal.
- The manuscript must not have been previously published or be under review by another journal.
- The manuscript may be written in either English or Indonesian using clear and academically appropriate language.
- Authors must follow the official MADIA manuscript template.
- All contributing authors must be listed in the OJS metadata during submission.
- The manuscript must be free from plagiarism and any form of publication misconduct.
2. Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the MADIA Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Authors are required to register as an Author before submitting a manuscript. Submissions sent by email will not be processed except under special circumstances approved by the Editorial Office.
3. Author Information
Authors must provide complete information in both the manuscript and OJS metadata, including:
- Full name (without academic titles).
- Institutional affiliation.
- Institutional address.
- Active email address.
- ORCID iD (if available).
- Corresponding author designation.
4. Article Title
- The title should be concise, clear, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the study.
- The recommended length is no more than 15 words.
- Avoid uncommon abbreviations and acronyms.
- The title should be written in the same language as the manuscript.
A well-crafted title should clearly communicate the focus of the study and facilitate indexing and discoverability.
5. Abstract and Keywords
Each manuscript must include an abstract and keywords.
- For manuscripts written in Indonesian, abstracts must be provided in both Indonesian and English.
- For manuscripts written in English, an English abstract is required.
- The abstract should contain between 150 and 250 words.
- The abstract should be written as a single paragraph.
- The abstract should briefly describe the background, objectives, methodology, main findings, and conclusions.
- The abstract should not contain citations, tables, or figures.
- Authors should provide 3–5 relevant keywords or phrases.
The abstract serves as a concise summary of the entire article and should clearly communicate the study’s contribution.
6. Manuscript Structure
Research articles should be organized as follows:
- Title
- Author(s) and Affiliation(s)
- Abstract and Keywords
- Introduction
- Research Method
- Results and Discussion
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgments (optional)
- References
This structure follows the standard format commonly used in communication and social science journals.
7. Introduction
The introduction should include:
- Research background.
- Research problem or issue.
- Review of relevant previous studies (state of the art).
- Research gap and novelty.
- Research objectives.
- Theoretical or conceptual framework.
The introduction should clearly demonstrate the contribution of the study and position it within existing scholarship.
8. Research Method
The methodology section should clearly describe:
- Research approach and design.
- Type of study.
- Research setting or context.
- Population, participants, or research objects.
- Data collection techniques.
- Research instruments.
- Data analysis procedures.
The methodology should be sufficiently detailed to allow replication or verification by other researchers.
9. Results and Discussion
This section should:
- Present research findings systematically.
- Be supported by relevant tables, figures, graphs, or other data presentations.
- Interpret findings in relation to the theoretical framework.
- Compare findings with previous studies.
- Explain the theoretical and practical implications of the results.
The discussion should move beyond description and provide interpretation, significance, and scholarly contribution.
10. Conclusion
The conclusion should:
- Address the research objectives or questions.
- Summarize the key findings concisely.
- Avoid repeating the discussion section.
- Include recommendations for future research where appropriate.
11. Tables and Figures
- All tables and figures must be numbered sequentially and provided with clear titles.
- Each table or figure must be referenced within the text.
- Figures must be of sufficient quality and resolution for publication.
- Sources must be acknowledged when tables or figures are adapted from other works.
12. Citations and References
- References and in-text citations must follow the latest edition of the APA (American Psychological Association) style.
- The use of reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote is strongly encouraged.
- At least 80% of references should come from primary sources, particularly scholarly journal articles.
- Authors are encouraged to use references published within the last 10 years.
- All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.
The use of current and relevant references is essential for demonstrating the scholarly contribution of the research.
13. Publication Ethics
Authors must comply with all MADIA publication ethics policies, including those related to originality, plagiarism, authorship, conflicts of interest, and research integrity. Manuscripts found to violate publication ethics may be rejected, corrected, retracted, or otherwise handled in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies.
14. Editorial Decision
All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening, similarity checking, and a double-blind peer-review process. The final publication decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewer recommendations and Editorial Board considerations.
15. Manuscript Template
Authors are required to use the official MADIA manuscript template available on the journal website. Manuscripts that do not comply with the required format and template may be returned to the authors for revision before entering the review process.
