Publication Ethics
This Publication Ethics Statement serves as a guideline for authors, editors, reviewers, and journal managers of Jurnal Sarjana Ilmu Komunikasi (J-SIKOM) in conducting the publication process professionally, transparently, and responsibly. The journal is committed to maintaining academic integrity and adheres to the ethical standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Responsibilities of Editors
- Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on the academic quality of manuscripts, their relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, and the recommendations of reviewers.
- Editors evaluate manuscripts objectively without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, political beliefs, or institutional affiliation.
- Editors maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and do not disclose information to anyone other than those directly involved in the publication process.
- Editors shall not use unpublished materials disclosed in submitted manuscripts for their own research without the author's explicit written consent.
- Editors are responsible for addressing suspected ethical misconduct professionally and based on sufficient evidence.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions through objective and constructive evaluations.
- Reviewers provide clear, scholarly, and accountable feedback to improve the quality of manuscripts.
- Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all information related to the manuscripts under review.
- Reviewers should inform editors if they identify plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, or any other ethical concerns.
- Reviewers must avoid conflicts of interest that could compromise the objectivity of their assessments.
- Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or are unable to complete the review within the required timeframe should notify the editor promptly.
Responsibilities of Authors
- Authors must present their research findings accurately, honestly, and transparently.
- Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original works and have not been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal.
- Authors are required to provide proper acknowledgment and citation of all sources used in their work.
- Any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, or duplicate publication is strictly prohibited.
- Authors must ensure that all individuals who have made significant contributions to the research are listed as co-authors and that no inappropriate authorship is included.
- Authors are required to disclose sources of research funding and any potential conflicts of interest.
- If a significant error is discovered after publication, authors must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.
Originality and Plagiarism
All submitted manuscripts must be original works of the authors. J-SIKOM does not tolerate any form of plagiarism, including direct plagiarism, partial plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or the use of others’ work without proper attribution. Manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the review process.
Conflict of Interest
Authors, editors, and reviewers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may influence the review process, interpretation of research findings, or publication decisions. Conflicts of interest may include financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships.
Duplicate Submission and Redundant Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Manuscripts that have been previously published or are under consideration elsewhere will not be considered for publication in J-SIKOM.
Research Data Integrity
Authors are responsible for the accuracy of research data, methodologies, analyses, and interpretations presented in their manuscripts. Research data should be properly maintained and made available when required for academic verification purposes.
Corrections and Retractions
If substantial errors, ethical violations, or inaccuracies are identified after publication, the editor may issue corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or article retractions in accordance with the severity of the issue.
Research Ethics Standards
Research involving human participants, respondents, informants, or other research subjects must be conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards. Authors are responsible for obtaining any necessary approvals and ensuring the confidentiality and privacy of research participants.
Statement
By submitting a manuscript to J-SIKOM, authors confirm that their work complies with all principles of publication ethics and agree to follow the editorial and peer-review processes established by the journal.
