ANALISIS POLA KOMUNIKASI INTERPERSONAL MAHASISWA BERKEPRIBADIAN INTROVERT DALAM INTERAKSI SOSIAL DI LINGKUNGAN KAMPUS

Abstract

Introverted students continue to engage in interpersonal communication on campus, but they tend to interact selectively and feel more comfortable in supportive social situations. This study aims to analyze the interpersonal communication patterns of introverted students in social interaction on campus, identify communication barriers, and explain the strategies used to overcome those barriers. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Informants were selected purposively and consisted of one main informant, one key informant, and one expert informant. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis followed the interactive Miles and Huberman model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was examined through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicate that the interpersonal communication pattern of introverted students tends to be passive-responsive and moves toward a circular communication pattern. The informant tends to observe and listen before providing feedback. Communication becomes more effective with familiar people, in small groups, or through digital media. Communication barriers include shyness, low self-confidence, anxiety, nervousness, overthinking, difficulty initiating conversation, fear of negative judgment, crowded environments, and academic demands to speak publicly. Strategies include preparing before speaking, choosing comfortable communication partners and environments, using digital media, communicating in small groups, and gradually practicing communication courage. The findings demonstrate the relevance of the Schramm Communication Model through encoding, decoding, feedback, and field of experience. Introversion does not prevent interpersonal communication, but influences how individuals organize, understand, and respond to messages.
