Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia caused by insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. Family support plays an important role in improving patients' adherence to dietary management and foot care to prevent diabetes-related complications. This study aimed to determine the relationship between family support and dietary adherence and foot care among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Sawah Lebar Public Health Center, Bengkulu City. This quantitative analytical study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 77 respondents were selected using the Slovin formula. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed through univariate analysis and the Chi-square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 61.0% of respondents had moderate family support, 59.7% adhered to dietary recommendations, and 61.0% practiced good foot care. There was a significant relationship between family support and dietary adherence (p = 0.000; φ = 0.547), as well as between family support and foot care (p = 0.000; φ = 0.584). In conclusion, better family support is associated with higher dietary adherence and better foot care among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
