Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. One alternative therapy being explored is the use of herbal remedies such as butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea L.), which is believed to help lower blood glucose levels. This study aimed to determine the effect of butterfly pea flower drink on reducing random blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Telaga Dewa Public Health Center, Bengkulu City. This research used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental one group pre-post test design. The sample consisted of 15 respondents selected by purposive sampling. The intervention involved giving butterfly pea flower drinks once daily for 7 days. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the average blood glucose level before the intervention was 264.93 mg/dL and decreased to 160.13 mg/dL after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value = 0.001 (< 0.05). indicating a significant effect of the butterfly pea flower drink on reducing blood glucose levels. In conclusion, butterfly pea flower drink is effective in lowering random blood glucose levels and may serve as a practical, non-pharmacological alternative therapy for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus..
