Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases globally, including in Indonesia. This disease not only affects the physical condition of patients but also their overall quality of life. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and medication adherence with the quality of life among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the working area of Telaga Dewa Public Health Center, Bengkulu City. This research applied a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The total sample consisted of 146 T2DM patients selected through total sampling. The research instruments included questionnaires on physical activity, medication adherence, and quality of life. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents were male (63.7%), aged 46–60 years (49.3%), had a senior high school education (41.1%), were married (52.7%), and had suffered from diabetes for more than 12 years (41.8%). The univariate analysis showed that most respondents had a high level of physical activity (79.5%), low medication adherence (66.4%), and a moderate quality of life (87.7%). The results of the bivariate test showed that there was a significant relationship between physical activity and quality of life (p = 0.041), and there was a significant relationship between medication compliance and quality of life (p = 0.001). The results of this study emphasize the importance of increasing education related to medication compliance for Type 2 DM patients to improve their quality of life. Physical activity needs to be integrated with a regular diet and medication compliance for optimal impact.
