Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) represents a long-term lung condition marked by ongoing restrictions in airflow, frequently leading to inadequate clearance of airways. The Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT) serves as a non-drug treatment that aids in the movement of mucus and enhances breathing efficiency. This report aims to outline nursing care involved in delivering ACBT therapy to individuals with COPD at dr. M. Yunus Regional General Hospital in Bengkulu. A descriptive case study format was utilized, focusing on nursing care for three COPD patients admitted to M. Yunus Regional General Hospital, Bengkulu in August 2026. This study included assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, with ACBT provided three times each day during the care period. Following the implementation of ACBT, all three patients exhibited lower respiratory and pulse rates, enhanced oxygen saturation levels, fewer abnormal breath sounds, improved coughing efficiency, and a decrease of two points in dyspnea intensity on a scale of 0 to 10. Regular application of ACBT therapy can significantly enhance airway clearance and respiratory health in individuals suffering from COPD, making it advisable as an essential aspect of standard nursing interventions for patients experiencing ineffective airway clearance.
