Abstract
Usually, arthritis affects the hands, elbow joints, feet, ankles, and knees. Pain and swelling may persist and gradually worsen over time
under certain conditions. The purpose of this study was to address the primary concern of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, with an
emphasis on impaired comfort, and to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions as a progressive therapeutic measure. This study used a
descriptive approach to investigate the implementation of Progressive Muscle Relaxation through the nursing care process in older adults
with rheumatoid arthritis. The findings showed that before the intervention, all three patients experienced impaired comfort with a
moderate level of pain. After receiving Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy for three consecutive days, all patients experienced a
reduction in pain intensity to a mild level. The nursing diagnosis identified was impaired comfort. The main finding of this study is that
Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy is an effective nursing intervention for reducing pain intensity. This approach can be used as
a non-pharmacological strategy in nursing practice.
